When you take a picture, a photodetector measures the amount of light entering the camera through the lens, causing the value of aperture and shutter speed for an exposure (both in manual, aperture priority or time). At this moment each pixel in the sensor records the brightness of the light that hits it, accumulating an electrical charge. The more intense the light, the higher the electrical charge. At the close of the diaphragm is measured, the position of the pixel and its value will be converted into a binary (digital). And the software inside the camera and develop this series of binary numbers obtained to reconstruct the image that we see through the viewer on the back seat of the car which has already stored in the memory card.
